What’s HOT for the 4th of July!

Here at FIT Radio, our lives revolve around music, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that today’s discussion circled around what we were each planning on listening to for the 4th of July and what we would recommend to our users. Since we all have such different personalities, we decided to each come up with our own list. Feel free to check them out and add our favorites to your favorites AND, of course, you can never go wrong with the 4th of July Party and Poolside genres. We made sure to fill all our genres with the BEST of the BEST, just in time for America’s favorite holiday!

Evan Malloy
(Music Director & DJ Funk Manchu) the Cool Kid on the block hosting a “cookout with the fam” recommends “Everything on the Classic Rock and Indie Dance genres, because nothing is more American than good ole fashioned rock n’ roll.” He also recommends: My Body (Inspired by Men’s Health) – a proven alternative rock party starter, All You’re Waiting For - Indie-Dance tracks that really get him going, Triple J Mixup 1992-2002 by Fight Facilities – an impeccably mixed ‘Best of’ from the 90′s decade, and Picture Me Rollin – coastal-centric gangster rap from the 90s.

Lexi Bellassai (Vice President), obsessed with The Mars Volta, Glassjaw and lover off all music from the 70s and 80s, will be listening to her favorite FIT Radio mixes while running the Peachtree Road Race: Roxanne’s Easy Lover featuring her favorite Sussudio, Mas Trabajo by The Captains of Industry, Casablanca by Rick Rude, Yacht Magic Pt. 2 by Christyle, and “if the after party crowd will allow it” Burn and Caught A Glimpse featuring her favorite Rock artists.

Cari Seaman (Social Media Director) a lover of ALL music who physically cannot choose one or two genres to love, believes she has come up with the perfect list for a crowd that will satisfy everyone who is listening… even the boys on the boat next door: Boujis Ibiza 2011 by Sam Young, STK London mix Pt. 1 also by Sam Young, Vapor Trail by Commander, Carried Away by Commander, Super Sounds by Eddy Xpress (a new DJ just brought on by DJcity), and Deeper Shade of Soul by Chris Anthony.

Nora Dillard (Music Director), the festival obsessed, EDM devotee plans to kick off the lake party with her favorite EDM, Open Format, and 2K Mixes (that bring her back to diapers… just joking). Here’s her list for the 4th: Dance Sessions by DJ Wessy Wes, Super Sounds by Eddy Xpress (also mentioned by Cari), What Can Pound Do For You by ###, Pt. 2 My Awesome Mixtape #3 by Clinton Sparks, and Pop 2k by The Party Boy DJ Chris Styles.

We also just pulled a list of the MOST FAVORITED MIXES by users on FIT Radio this month:

Feel this moment by DJ Johnny D
Sweet Nothing by DJ Flash
Mami Mix by DJ Mami Chula
thatPower by Funk Manchu (Evan Malloy)
Feel Again by Rapko

Getting To Know Your Favorite FIT Radio DJ’s: Nacho Vega

I got to chat with one of our most popular hip-hop DJ’s on Fit Radio, Nacho Vega! Nacho Vega got his start learning from some fellow DJ friends (he was only 14!) and since then has been creating awesome hip-hop and house mixes and spinning around the US! Read on to find out more about one of our favorite DJ’s, Nacho Vega…

 Where are you from?

I was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico, Grew Up in Orlando, Florida but I’ve lived in San Francisco, CA for the last 5 years.

Where is your favorite place to spin?
My favorite place to spin has to be at Temple SF where I do my residency.  Although I’ve played at some amazing places in the US and Canada, Temple SF feels the most like home away from my studio at home.

What made you get into music and DJing?
The reason I got into the DJ culture was two different friends of mine.  The first was Enrique Gonzalez aka Rick G of 3rd Wish whom at the time was called DJ Inferno and was one of Central Florida’s best Battle DJ’s.  Rick taught me how to DJ every night for two weeks and let me borrow my first crate of records.  I was 14 and he was 15.

Then I met Mark Villajandre aka Mark V. who taught me all about song selection and dance music when I was 16.  From there the journey has been one filled with many friends and good memories.

Favorite food?

Pernil con Arroz y Gandules  (I had to look this up, found out it was a delicious Puerto Rican dish made up of pork and yellow rice, yum!)

Favorite TV show/s?

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Archer, Doctor Who, sports, and my guiltiest pleasure; Love and Hip-Hop Atlanta.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be?

Paris, France.  I’d love to take my wife Naomi there one day.

Do you have an idol? If so, who?

My idol and hero has to be my mom.  No matter what she finds the good and wants to help everybody. She has endless amounts of love and I love that about her.

Favorite genre and/or style of music?

House and Hip-Hop.  I grew up with both and both have been a part of every facet of my life.  So like a picture album, I have so many memories tied to Hip-Hop and House Music.

What is your favorite thing about being a DJ?
My favorite thing about being a DJ has to be the improvisation playing records and the fact that every night is different. The crowd is different every night. Every place you play they have different moods as a dance floor, so you have to improvise and be creative to give the crowd a new and unique experience.

What is your favorite track at the moment (or favorite DJ/producer/artist is fine too) ?
Hands down favorite song right now is “G.O.O.D. Morning (Europe)” by 2 Chainz.  The record is dope and suits a veteran of the Dirty South that reinvented himself as a persona that has brought credibility to the hyper swagged out culture that is Trap Music, the next evolution of the Dirty South Genre.

What type of equipment do you use?
I use a Native Instruments Traktor S2 DJ Controller.  I switched to it one and half years ago from Serato Scratch Live and I have not looked back.  Best investment for DJ’s that want all in one portability for any gig and the comfort of using the same physical and virtual DJ interface.

What is the hardest thing you’ve ever done?
Graduate college.  It took time, commitment, and money.  But overall, best investment of my life.

How would you describe yourself in 3 words?
Funny.  Crunk.  Loyal.

Do you have any secret talents?
I’m a pretty awesome shadow puppeteer and Lego architect.

What do you do when you aren’t spinning?
I hang out with my wife Naomi, work as a Network Architect, exercise w/ Fit Radio at my local Stonestown San Fran YMCA and have a First Class ticket to the Jet Life on Flight 420.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I see myself doing the exact same thing except with some little copies of Naomi and I running around to share in life with.

If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
Mind reading.  I think Mind reading would be awesome for obvious reasons, but I also don’t know if I want that kind of super power. It might be like the Kanye joint “No One Man should have all that Power”.

What are your thoughts on FIT Radio?
Fit Radio is awesome. It is like having an on-demand catalog of some of the world’s best DJs right at your fingertips, literally. Fit Radio has also given me the opportunity to share music with all the Fit Radio members around the world.  Fit Radio is the premier music provider for fitness goers anywhere and everywhere.  It’s probably one of the best mobile apps EVER!

Getting To Know Your Favorite FIT Radio DJs: ### (Pound Pound Pound)

I got to have a chat with the DJ duo Pound Pound Pound (made up of Jeremy Rhodes and Josh Wren). Their close friendship and mutual love of music got them to where they are now, producing successful Dubstep and Electro House mixes and even throwing in a bit of Moombahton! Read on to discover more about one of our favorite DJ duos, Pound Pound Pound…

Where are you guys from?
West Lafayette, Indiana

Where is your favorite place to spin?
That’s hard to pick…. Maybe The Metro in Chicago or The Congress Theater

What made you guys get into music and DJing?
We both really had a passion for music. So we bought turntables off
craigslist, and things escalated to where we are at now.

Favorite candy?
Jeremy-gummy worms

Josh- beef jerky

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Somewhere in Europe definitely. Probably visit our buddies in England or the Netherlands

Do you have an idol? If so, who?
We wouldn’t say we have an idol,in particular, but when we first started getting into music was in 2008 when we saw so many shows that embraced the culture. It really inspired us to become a part of the movement.

Favorite genre and/or style of music?
We can’t have just one favorite genre. It would be too constricting like a turtleneck. Our taste in music is too broad to pick just one. But the main genres we’ve been hitting lately are Trap, Moombah, Electro and Dubstep.

What is your favorite thing about being a DJ?
The reaction after you’re done and the energy surrounding the show. You can feel if the show was a good show and there’s no better feeling then knowing you made a bunch of peoples’ nights because of the bangers you were dropping.

What is your favorite track at the moment?
Either “Flex” by Heroes x Villians or the Jay Fay remix of “Ladies In The Back” by Star Slinger

What type of equipment do you use?
For live shows, 2 Pioneer 1000 mk3s and a Pioneer djm-800 mixer.
For production, we use Logic and Ableton.

What is the hardest thing you’ve ever done?
definitely music production. No matter how much you know or you think you know there’s always something to learn. But that’s what makes it so fun.

How would you describe yourself in 3 words?
pound pound pound

You guys have any secret talents?
FIFA… It’s our goals to become the best FIFA players out of all the producers out there haha

What do you do when you aren’t spinning?
Making original tunes, going to shows, FIFA, or taking care of LazerLou. He’s our mascot and on out EP cover…he’s our pet skunk.

Where do you guys see yourself in 10 years?
Hopefully living on a coast somewhere doing music full time. Hopefully still touring.

Do you have a New Years resolution? If so, what?
I’d say just to keep progressing…. if you’re not moving forward, then you’re falling backwards in this industry.
Our main goal is to release 2 E.P.’s this year and do some major shows.

If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
Jeremy: If I could just get really big. Go into a room full of people and just get huge and make them all feel super uncomfortable. lol
Josh: Telekinesis… that way I could sit on my couch and write music just with my mind along with other things.

What are your thoughts on FIT Radio?
We think it’s really awesome and we are thankful to be apart of it. Thank you for providing a way to find new music and for supporting ours!

Getting to Know Our FIT Radio Users: Scott Stewart, Pro Wakeboarder

Scott Stewart
Pro Wakeboarder

From Springville, Ca
Currently residing in Auburndale FL

“ I hope to bring the realization of what is real and what is Hype!! I want riders who work hard and ride well to get recognition for doing so.” – Scott

Favorite Motivational Quote:
“As you think, so shall you become”
-Bruce Lee

How do you use FIT Radio? I enjoy music almost all day to stay motivated and pumped up to train as much as possible, and FIT Radio get me there!

Describe your typical day? Typical day at home usually is waking up, making a healthy breakfast and tea while catching up on emails and my web pages. Then I start warming up the body by rolling (using a foam roller) and performing dynamic stretches before I go ride. Head to the gas station to get gas for the day, and then come back to the house to start riding. Usually ride once or twice. If I don’t ride twice, I usually make it to the gym. Then I fuel up with some lunch, and train or ride again. Then when I am done riding I make dinner and rest for an hour or so. After digesting I do some form of yoga nightly to stay loose for the next day usually while watching t.v.

What makes you stand out? I feel my style of riding, of going big in the flats while incorporating tech tricks helps me stand out. Also my training and work ethic towards wakeboarding, it’s kinda unorthodox.

What is your favorite wakeboarding move? To me the simple moves seem the most fun! But doing them big and poked out makes them feel so good! My favorite trick is a backside 180 in the flats, or a switch backside 180 in the flats. Love it!

Where is your favorite place to wakeboard? Lake Powell. Lake Powell is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen, it’s gorgeous!!

How do you train? My training depends on the day and what it consists of. If I ride multipul times a day, I will just foam roll and do yoga to loosen my body after intense riding. If I only ride once or not at all, I am in the gym training high intensity workouts, building explosive fast twitch strength. I usually do circuit style training, but I change it up every month or so. And always end training sessions with cool down yoga :)

What do you plan to do to grow wakeboarding into new industries? I want to push my riding, doing new things in a different way and have them be seen. To introduce the public to what wakeboarders are really doing. I want to do film projects with outside industry networks to showcase wakeboarding to the masses. Also put on events that exposes wakeboarding to new crowds.

What is your favorite time of day to wakeboard and why? best time is anytime after 11am, haha. It takes a little bit for the body to wake up and get motivated after previous days of riding and training intensely.

Do you travel a lot? If so explain where/why? I travel quite a bit! In the last 2 months, I have been home 6 days of those 2 months. I travel a lot due to sponsor obligations, appearances, signings, shows, photo shoots, and video shoots. Its mainly all over the U.S as of now.

Why do you love wakeboarding? I love riding! Since the day I started! It takes me out of the head. Puts me directly in the moment, where nothing else matters except what is happening in that moment. And I love that!

What is your goal in life? Happiness and Happiness of others!

How do you live differently than most pro wakeboarders? Diet, physical training, Coaching, Sports Phycology,  no alcohol.

What is your favorite type of music? Anything that compliments the moment! But a lot of the times, real HIP HOP!

How old were you when you jumped your first wake? I was probably 14? It was the first day I ever tried wakeboarding.

Describe the feeling of landing your first jump? My first jump was actually no big deal to me. I had grown up snowboarding and doing way bigger airs than that at the time, so it wasn’t that big of a deal to me. But landing my first flip was when I got stoked, and was addicted to riding from then on.

Why did you become a pro wakeboarder? It wasn’t really a choice. It came to me out of necessity. It help mold me to what I am today.

How do you stay energized? Natural ways or products. Yoga, diet, music, USPLabs supplements, Organic teas (Yerba Mate) love that stuff!!

What is your favorite wakeboarding gear? Favorite gear is probably my HYPERLITE System wakeboard bindings!! I no longer have to worry about heel or toe lift, or tweaking my ankle. They provide the best support out there, period!

Are you an only child? If not, what do you siblings do? I have a sister, Julie who is awesome!! And she is expecting a boy soon, and I couldn’t be more exited!! He’s gonna come stay with me and learn to ride!!

Have you ever gotten injured while attempting a move? Yes, after doing a basic double flip, I started working on variations of that double flip that has never been done before, and got pretty broke off while working on it. Took me out for a little bit.

What motivates you to stay on track and work hard? Everything I have accomplished up to this point, and how much I have left to give back to the world. It’s not a conscious thing, it comes naturally, just something I have to do right now. I wake up in the morning knowing that this is what I need to do. Life’s too short not to go after what you want.

What are competitions like? There not my cup of tea at the moment. I respect it and know it is necessary. I would just like to see the courses get bigger, and riders be rewarded for going bigger and faster. I know it would grow the spectators appreciation.

I would just like to thank everyone who has ever supported me. God, My family, friends, Coach Scott Harwood, and Trainer Chris Christoff. All my Sponsors, Chuck at Buywake.com, Ambush boarding co, Hyperlite Wakeboards, and Usplabs supplements.

If you want it, go and get it, Now!!

Thank you, Scott, for doing this interview with us! Photo props go to Ryan Taylor!

BIO
I am a WBFF Professional Athlete, a member of team Total Body Advantage, and a member of the NY DIVAS with five years of fitness competitions behind me. I was born in Costa Rica, raised in New Jersey and achieved a Bachelor’s degree in Health Science Studies with a double minor in Biology and Pscyology at Quinnipiac University in Connecticut. I have a grand passion for fitness and everything it encompasses. As it is ever changing, I am constantly doing my research to keep myself up to date. I love to learn, share tips, and meet those who also love this lifestyle.

From a young age, I’ve been heavily involved in sports. There were rarely seasons in which I was not active on an athletic team. I played soccer, lacrosse, basketball, ran track and cross country, and danced ballet and hip hop. While in college, I really missed being a part of a team and playing a sport. It was then, in my senior year of college that I discovered the world of competitive fitness-and what a world it is! It is a world filled with men and women from all paths of life seeking to improve their lives through fitness-in a nutshell. Competing has taught me a lot about myself, my strengths and my weaknesses. Like most sports, it not only tests you physically, but emotionally, and mentally as well. I train hard year round, lift heavy, and am constantly incorporating new techniques into my workouts. I also eat clean, do my research to ensure my training approach is safe, healthy and effective, and meet with my teammates on a regular basis.

My love for fitness goes hand in hand with my love for music. Up until recently I had an iPod (my old faithful) that I bought over 10 years ago! I used to spend countless hours selecting the perfect workout playlist to get me through my intense training sessions. Music just moves me! It wakes me up on sleepy days, gets me through rough workouts, and most importantly AMPS my workouts. I wake up to it, workout to it, and listen to it every chance I get. The day I discovered FIT Radio was the day I stopped sitting hours by the computer composing the perfect playlist as all their playlists are exactly what I am looking for.

My most recent achievement was winning the title Ms. Fitness Atlantic Bikini Overall Champion at the last show I competed in which earned me my WBFF Pro card. In just a couple of weeks I will be competing against professional athletes from all of over the world at the WBFF World Championship in Toronto, Canada which will aire live on
Pay-Per-View August 24th and 25th. Wish me luck! :)
